One of the luxuries of being a realtor is seeing the many unique and creative designs in the homes that we enter. The amazing use of space or the pops of color that really define a home’s design.

Here are 7 rising trends that we’ve observed at the beginning of 2021.

1) The "grandmillennial" or "granny chic" style is rising in popularity.

Think of a more colorful and modern version of Grandma’s house. Granny chic spaces are a mix of the old and new and are filled with fun patterns and texture. Bring in antique furniture and add a slick piece of artwork.

2) Peel and stick wallpaper is gaining popularity in 2021.

I know... the thought of adding wallpaper makes some people cringe! However, more and more manufacturers are making beautiful designs to choose from. On the plus side, this wallpaper is removable, so you don’t have to steam and score when you want a change.

3) Rustic ceramics are edging out smooth subway tiling in the kitchen.

We are seeing more and more of the handmade style tiles in the kitchen. Think Moroccan or hand-formed.

4) Green cabinets may be one of the biggest kitchen trends in 2021.

They are showing up everywhere on IG and Pinterest. It adds instant pop to your kitchen and green is timeless. What are your thoughts on colored cabinets?

5) Industrial styling!

This trend has been around for a while but keeps getting better and better. It’s edgy and adds instant personallity to your home. This style often incorporates elements such as exposed stonework, high ceilings, wood and metal elements, and neutral colors. It is a fuss-free style that may be a rising trend in 2021 as people continue to spend more time at home.

6) Plaster walls are slowly making a comeback.

Walls made with this technique instantly add depth, sheen, and dimension to a space. They are also long-lasting and environmentally safe.

7) Wicker and rattan furniture is still trending.

These natural materials add warmth and light to home decor. Natural fabrics are gaining popularity over synthetic fabrics. With the growing awareness of environmental issues, a trend for using more sustainable materials and natural fabrics in the home is gaining popularity.
